This view shows the prevailing wind - when there is one - taking the smoke down the kettle river - away from town, and most importantly, away from city hall - the site of the present pollution monitor. Thus, on most days, only a small part of the spew from the industrial park makes it through the monitor!

- And the slighter the breeze, the higher the cloud of haze and guck, and the longer it takes to leave town - although it will all eventually make its way down the river. You're welcome, Billings, Boyds, Kettle Falls, and Colville!

This is a light breeze - the cloud goes up high and mixes with the upper air of the valley. On breezier days, it doesn't get as high before being carried down-valley.
